This wedding would certainly top my list of distance travelled. Just a casual 36,000km round journey from Adelaide, South Australia to Corfe on the South Coast of England. This was a date I had highlighted in my calendar and it certainly didn’t disappoint.
My story with Josh begins about 20 years ago when we met at primary school. My first memory of Josh is back in 1996 when he came to school with a brand new digital watch, he was the talk of the town, Josh and his new watch. Being the kind and affable chap that he is, he let me wear it for the rest of the day and that was where our friendship began. We then spent 10 or so years playing rugby alongside each other and followed each other through high school before I moved to Australia and Josh went into the British Marines. Almost 9 years had flown when I received a message from Josh seeing if i’d be interested in coming over to the UK to photograph his wedding, he didn’t have to ask twice, there was no way I was missing it.
We kicked off the day at Kingston where I caught up with the guys who were diligently finalising the finishing touches to the preparations. We then jumped in the cars and made the short trip to the quintessential English pub, The Square & Compass right on the coast. I then joined the girls back at the Courtyard before guests began sifting through in time for the ceremony in the converted barn. It was an emotional affair to say the least, not a dry eye in sight. After we the opened the barn doors we had a couple of rouge Alsatians crash the party knocking over vases and generally causing a humorous stir before making our way out to the garden for drinks and some of the Purbecks finest ice cream. Charlie, Josh and I then hit some little spots I had scouted the day before prior to coming back for an evening of fine dining and good times.
I’d just like to extend a huge thank you for Charlie, Josh and their families for offering their unrivalled hospitality and really making me feel like part of the family. It was a real honour to be a part of this day, and it will forever be something that I hold dear.
