I have been to some pretty intimate weddings before, but nothing comes remotely close to this. It was Seema + Chris, myself & celebrant Alistair Mitchell perched on top of a cliff at the remarkable Southern Ocean Lodge at Kangaroo Islands, Hanson Bay. I caught the early bird ferry over the Backstair Passage between Cape Jervis & Penneshaw before making the long drive across to the southern part of the island.
What I was met with was beyond words. A beautiful island lodge nestled into the cliffs overlooking the harsh and unforgiving ocean crashing against the rocks below. Simply stunning. Seema + Chris flew in from Sydney after carefully selecting the perfect place to exchange their vows. Around 2pm, we ventured down the boardwalk to a completely isolated spot overlooking the Great Australian Bight where they made it official. After the incredible emotional & intimate ceremony, we walked along the cliff tops before making the 30 minute journey to the Remarkable Rocks where we gifted with a momentous backdrop which really capped off the afternoon.
After hitting up a couple of old sheep paddocks on the way back, we finally settled in by the fire over looking the ocean as the sun finally set. A truly incredible experience, and one I certainly won’t be forgetting.
